    Deus sive Natura.
  1. The "Purpose" of Life

The dude DID suffer from a progressive ailment that left him incapable of enjoying more or less anything, mind you.
  2. If you've been clinically diagnosed with schizophrenia then self-medication is a prescription for disaster. By "I'm already on benzo's," I really hope you mean to say that you're already under psychiatric supervision. In that case, tell your doctor that the benzo's on their own aren't enough, that you've been supplementing with phenibut (phenyl-gaba), and discuss alternate treatment protocols. Atypical anti-psychotics are the front-line treatment for schizophrenia, not benzo's, or any other form of GABAergic, for that matter.
  3. Stating the obvious

I think he's looking more towards something along the lines of Smullyan/Tarski.
  4. Stating the obvious

IIRC, the 'speck of light' that returned him to sanity was delivered via ECT, not semantic reconciliation. And, the guy's still a nut-case.
  5. SuppInsider Design - RATE

If you bump this one more time I will ban you as it is getting annoying. Do a search. If it isn't here, then it's over at M&M, or Colin is mistaken. In any case, it's clear that nobody is inclined to do your own legwork for you.
  6. Consumable Treasures

I wasn't exposed to any of the hype, either. Then again, I also don't browse pop sites, or watch tv, so everything most of what I know about hte movie scene at a given moment is a hodge-podge of things I've heard co-workers jabbering about or recommendations from friends. I definitely understand what oyu're saying, spook. Some of the parts were so over-done that I would have fast-forwarded through them, were it not for the fact that missing parts of movies tends to drive me nuts. The entire beauty pageant scene comes to mind. On the other hand, I fo0und some of the contextual ironies highly amusing, e.g., Nietzsche and ascetism, Proust and jealous love. Unfortunately, what could have played itself out thematically as the absurdity of interpretation (internally, the way those ideals get parsed by the characters are inconsistent and self-nullifying) later gets undermined by not-quite-vomit-inducing coming-of-age-esque Realizations About Life. It's definitely a mixed bag, but, as far as movies that I've been forced to sit through in hte past year goes, it was better than most. After the fact, I like the soundtrack more than the movie itself. Especially after ripping it, removing 'catwalk baby' and 'superfreak', and burning it. Q: Where do all of you out there who do have some aesthetic sensibility turn when looking for a Good movie? All of the review sites are terrible, as a rule, and the academic film critics are out of their bloody minds. Unfortunately, I suspect that we wouldn't need threads like this if there were good places to look

  8. Consumable Treasures

Add Little Miss Sunshine to the list.

  10. Big Corporations

Sorry if I was unclear. I don't mean to suggest that sound economy is based on nothing. Rather, that, in our day and age, it isn't saving and coupon-cutting that gets one ahead, but sound investing.
  11. Big Corporations

I think that people just mis-understand the change of times. In our parents' day, there was such a thing as Weber's Protestant Work Ethic (and it's viability). In these days, the idea of "an honest day's work" is a joke. The divide between the upper and lower class is driven by one thing and one thing only: the upper class understands that the current economy is based on investment, not work, whereas the lower class clings to archaic ideals about "honest work."
  12. why is there something insted of nothing

I HAVE to mention, for my own vindication, that you're arguing for immanence over transcendence, here
  13. Cocaine

Bromocriptine. Wait... you haven't done it in 4 mo, and you're still "addicted"?? Dude.. have a dose of realism: the average amount of time in an in-patient clinic for crack addiction is 2 weeks. After 4 months, you've LONG since passed all biological issues. Your problem is mental, period.
  14. Whats happened at M and M?

I haven't had the problems that you're describing here, but I have noticed some oddities within the past few days. Tonight I hit the 'reply' button on a thread; when the window came up, it included, in quotes, someone's post from an entirely different thread. Strange.
