  1. Polygamy

It is stupid. I blame our puritan forebears. I know several groups of people, though, who just do it anyway, outside the law, (I dont know any who have had kids in the relationships, though) and call it "polyamory". Its really just a fancier word for saying that you're a swinger who likes to live with the different people you have sex with occasionally. The poly relationships dont usually last long. Its hard enough having a relationship with one person, adding another into the mix.. sheesh.
  2. This is kind of out there, and I cant find anything at the moment suggesting it has the same effect on NE, but Ketamine seems to have the properties of "reseting" a lot of the neurotransmitters in the brain. I've found studies that suggest effects on dopamine, serotonin, and opioid receptors. It might affect NE as well. Some have suggested that DXM (the main active in Robotussin) would have similar, albeit milder effects. Wouldn't hurt to try taking some DXM-only Robotussin at say, 45-60mg a day for a week or so and see what happens. Or if you are feeling really adventurous, try a bolus dose of 400mg and see what happens. (after you try it at lower dosages to make sure you aren't really sensitive to it. ) Other than that, tapering like Sir Savage suggested, along with adaptogens like ginseng, high dose fish oil, and heavy cardio is all I got.
  3. All Purpose Battlestar Galactica Thread

Blew my mind. The all LSD episode of BSG. So, Tieg, Chief, etc + Starbuck are the "Final Five"? Makes me wonder if they aren't really cylons, but something different, something to help bridge the two. But, its a bit of a fools errand to predict this sort of thing, esp when the writers make up a lot of this stuff on the fly. That said, back in Jan of 2008? WTF? W T F!!!!
  4. The median IQ reaction to Silverman, Borat, et al..

I think she's trying really hard to be offensive and rude, and is not being smart or trenchant about it at all. So its just coarse. Someone a while back said her humor was all based around the kind of nervous "haha" reaction you get to a cute little girl saying "fuck!" in a group of grown ups, and that it gets really old, really fast. And so it has.
  5. Consumable Treasures

All reviews are going to be subjective, Im afraid.. Critics are mostly giving the movie industry feedback. Critique from someone who knows the craft. Good reviews can lead to Academy Awards, etc. I have a hunch the general public mostly uses previews and tv ads to determine whether or not to watch a move.

By chance I just now saw it. I won't try to argue this in any sort of absolutist terms, one can praise or rip apart anything.. if you dont like it, you dont like it. But I thought it was pretty enjoyable and moving. Best movie ever? No. Predictable? Yeah. But I thought it was well acted and a pleasant, quirky slice of life piece. It had a wide range of characters going through a wide range of experiences (while treated with hyperbole in the movie) that most people can relate to. That's probably why it's so popular.

Some good news, then. Im glad to hear it, and drink a toast to its continued increase.

Heh. Yeah, quite right.. But I dont see that as bringing them much integration into the society in general.. Dont see a lot of CEO Running Bear's.. But, like I was alluding to earlier, this is a different problem.. and me bringing indians into it also made more sense earlier in the day. I think my caffeine buzz wore off, and I should probably revisit this later.. Well, I hope it works. Have you seen any thing suggesting a upwards trend in a black middle or upper class in the past 20 years or so? If so, im on the bandwagon. If not.. I'll just play the wait and see game, I guess.

No, but it looks interesting.. How has your experience with it been?
  12. The median IQ reaction to Silverman, Borat, et al..

My knowledge of history is by no means absolute, a hobby at most, but I think history only supports your contention for new immigrant races/classes. The Amerindians and blacks in this country are two groups that dont fit into that category, and they tend to remain in the social ghetto. (although, why the indians have their problems is a whole other ball of wax.. the culture many of them are trying to maintain is like trying to ride a bike on an active NASCAR track.) I'll still contend that the dominant classes/races can have their cake and eat it too in this case.. they can get money without having to do squat in the way of improving the minorities stations in society. The Black History month stuff is PR work. Like the recent "greening" of a lot of the oil companies. (I should note that im not trying to portray the dominant culture and these corps as The Man, acting with malice.. They are doing their job, ie, making money, but it begins and ends there. I dont see any fiscal benefit for getting poor minorities educated and integrated when you can get their money already through low margin goods and services. Really, now that I think about it, a massive prison industry has sprung up around this integration problem. [its more nuanced than just race, here, but for simplicities sake..] Education and integration would stop that gravy train. So the greed motive force can work both ways.. ) The cultures that are having troubles integrating need a helping hand to undo years of bad habits, because I dont see it happening on its own, considering the history behind the current situation. We need CBT on a massive scale, essentially.

    Cool, thanks!
  14. Stating the obvious

Nuts, I was kind of hoping that you knew of some new thing in geometry where they were able to prove postulates.
