Rhodiola Rosea + AMP

I took a little over a gram of BN's Rhodiola Rosea + 2 AMPs and it was awesome. Stress and anxiety was eliminated completely for about 5 hours (started to kick up the last hour at work). I have a very stressful job that also demands customer service, plus I have social anxiety. Recently, days have sucked, stress and anxiety wise. I capped a little over a gram of BN's Rhodiola Rosea + 2 AMPs and downed them an hour and a half before work. Couldn't feel much till at work. Talking with patients/customers was easy and actually enjoyable which was a major difference than the preceding days. Its strange. It feels like its not working until you know you should be stressed or anxious and really, are not. So thats why I love it, it doesn't feel "unnatural", but it helps very well. This lasted for about 5 hours till I started to feel it wearing off. The AMP with it was amazing. I did not get any anxiety (which I usually get from AMP) and plus I had awesome energy, both physically and mentally. I typed way faster than normal, and counted way more accurately/fast. I found that I could multi-task, when I could not before at all. Just the above info made me in a good mood as well, as I was excited how well this was working. Rhodiola is definitely something that I will take for a while. Anyone know what else stacks well with Rhodiola? What are your experiences with Rhodiola?

I use rhodiola in my regular nootropic stack consisting of aniracetam, ALCAR, choline, and ashwagandha. For me, it's effects are much like the ones you describe. I love the stuff.

I use about 1.5g rhodiola in my pre-workout stack. The effects are pretty subtle, but it seems to help. Seems to help more in cases where I should be dragging my ass at the gym due to lack of sleep or stress. If I'm already rested and ready, there's not much of an effect. (As an adaptogen, I think this is basically exactly what one should expect.)

 

I like the idea of trying it with AMP. The effects you described sound ideal for me.

 

Given the stressors you describe, you might try adding theanine to the mix. (R + T or R + T + AMP).

Anyone know what else stacks well with Rhodiola?

 

I love Rhodiola.

 

Regularly stack:

 

1 '0' cap Rhodiola

1 '0' cap Chocamine

1 '0' cap Aniracetam

 

Also sometimes add a half or a whole tab of Adrafinil.

 

Makes for an alert motivated but anxiety-free stack.

 

YMMV.

 

( And be careful re dosing of Aniracetam, if you are not used to it )

( p.s. increasing doses of the above can start to feel a bit 'recreational' especially increasing the Aniracetam with the Adrafinil. I only discovered this by accident, as actually I prefer noops for 'smart' not 'high', so I'm usually careful. Again YMMV. )

Does this stuff bring down required sleep time? I must have only got 4-5 hours of sleep last night and this morning I literally jumped out of bed. Never felt this much energy in the morning before. Is Rhodiola supposed to have effects like that on sleep?

 

I hope there is no tolerance with this stuff. You guys seeing any tolerance issues?

That sounds very much how ALCAR effects me. ( I think taking Green Tea Extract with ALCAR also has something to do with this. ) Somewhere there's a long thread on these boards re ALCAR reducing sleep needs. Seek & ye shall find.

No, no tolerance issue for me, re Rhodiola.

 

It's a great supp, is Rhodiola. wub.gif I really like it a lot.

I have noticed a nice euphoria with Rhodiola as well, however I try and keep the dose down around 500mg. I did notice that after the 3d or 4th consecutive day that the "warm buzz" subsided. After not taking for 2 or 3 days it returned. I had capped this with Chocamine at about 600mg Rhodiola, and 600mg Chocamine (loosely packed 000 cap).

I'll have to try it out with green tea extract and ALCAR. I already have alot of ALCAR, but need to get some green tea extract. Hypnoracetam, how much ALCAR do you take with it? I will also most likely add ALA. Does anyone know the half life for Rhodiola? A dose for me seemed to last about 5 hours or so, which is still pretty awesome imo.

 

Hypnoracetam, just curious, what other herbs/supplements do you like alot?

I get like that with AMP. But I think Virtualcyber mentioned that Rho results in sleep readjustments at high doses.

2 caps AMP and 1 gram of Rhodiola - my workout was fine, nothing different from what i usually experience with AMP.

 

however, i couldn't sleep worth a shit last night...

 

darius, did you purposefully get 4-5 hours or did you get insomnia as well?

Well maybe you took it too late? I took my whole thing at like 3pm and it wore off by 8pm. I do remember waking up probably 4-5 times during the night (which usually doesn't happen), but falling asleep immediately again, back to a dreamless sleep. I also woke up 3 minutes before my alarm when off, fell back asleep till it went off. I remember being really energetic as soon as I left the bed. AMP usually doesn't improve my sleep alone. I've been taking AMP for more than a month, alone and stacked, and I never really felt as much energy as I did this morning. I also took a vitamin b12 shot last night, but I take that once week and never really felt too much from that in the past.

i took the AMP around 6pm and trained until 8pm - i've been using it for a month as well and havent ever had it interfere with my sleep when i dose it in the evening.

 

i took the rhodiola around 11:30 before bed, i've done this before as well and find it helps me relax.

 

not last night...i woke up at least 5 times, dreamless sleep, etc. i did get up ok this morning but that was more out of fear of being late to a client meeting.

Yeah.. I dunno.

 

Personally I don't mind waking up 5-6 times a night, if by morning, I feel like I have rested for 12 hours when it was really only 4-5 hours. Every time I woke up, I was probably awake for no more than 5 seconds and back to sleep. Maybe just long enough to look at the clock and roll ever lol. Everybody's different, especially with herbal stuff like this.

I'll often take a '0' cap of Green Tea Extract with a '00' cap of ALCAR.

 

I think it's something to do with the L-Theanine in Green Tea, or something, somehow reacting with ALCAR, and changing sleep patterns.

 

Sorry, I don't know/understand much about the underlying biochem etc. ( Loki, where are ya? biggrin.gif )

It's a very interesting read, as I recall.

 

You can actually buy L-Theanine powder on it's own, and for a while I did, but I kept forgetting to take it at the right time, so now I just take ALCAR with Green Tea Extract through the day, and so pretty much every night I just get by on 5 to 6 hours sleep. I FEEL as though it's mainly ALCAR that causes the sleep reduction effect, but I take the Green Tea Extract most days anyway, so whatever. I'ts great just comfortably getting by on 5 to 6 hours sleep. And if I have some Modafinil and/or Adrafinil in stock I can sometimes squeeze it down to 4 hours a night, but after that it starts to get a bit rough, for me at least. It's all to do with clever stack-tweaking I guess. And bearing in mind everyone reacts different to different supps & combis.

I know what works for me, and I have a high respect for some of the incredibly clever people on board here who understand in-depth bio-chem etc, and whose opinions I follow regularly & avidly, even if I don't always quite understand them. biggrin.gif

 

Anyways, I feel safe enough, and my life is generaly the better for having stumbled across Avant Labs & indeed Bulk Nutrition, and the whole concept of stack-tweaking, etc.

 

So there ya go.

 

( p.s. and I've just started exploring the ( already iconic? ) Ergopharm Amp, and have yet to arrive at a complete conclusion. It's conceptually as if the other supps in my stack are looking at AMP and saying, in chorus, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS STUFF???? biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif )

I am the only one who goes nighty-night after taking Rhodiola?  I swear the stuff puts me in a coma.

I personally don't take rho before workouts; at doseages at a gram and up it can release a respectable amount of seretonin. I don't like being too happy in the gym. I wanna destroy shit. Just me, though.

i've read that it takes upwards of a month's use of rho to get these results. have you experienced this?

 

i tend to pop about a gram before bed when after particualarly taxing days, but i dont do it consistently. will i still get any benefit from this supp?

I'd use about 700mg twice a day, everyday. It's an adaptogen, among other things, it takes a while to see its results, and even then, they are subtle.

i took 1500mg the other night on a relatively empty stomach and it knocked me out...the next morning i was still a little foggy, so ill continue to dose on an empty stomach and titrate down.

The essential oil from the dried roots/rhizomes of some species of Rhodiola supplements contain up to ~50% Geraniol - which I find to be quite interesting, based upon the feedback in this thread.

IMHO, the KEY issue with Rhodiola supplements that needs to be made clear, is short-term and one time "acute" use effects, vs. long-term (2 or more weeks of daily use for example) - effects of supplementation.

 

For example, a few hours after ingesting ~400-800mg of a Rhodiola Rosea extract - usually results in healthy adults experiencing an improvement in overall: reaction-time, attention, overall improved mood/altertness/mental well-being, significantly improved muscular strength/power, and SIGNIFICANTLY improved aerobic capacity and cardio-respiratory endurance.

 

On the contrary, it appears that long-term (3-6 weeks for example) - daily use of 200-400mg of Rhodiola Rosea extracts - tends to improve the ability to cope with mental stress, improved memory and alertness, and also increased feelings of "relaxation" - according to some studies.

 

These "adaptogenic" like effects of longer term use also have shown Rhodiola Rosea to increase levels of beta-endorphin and opioid-like activity - via its effects on the CNS. Also, Stage 3-4 Deep sleep and REM sleep are usually increased along with overall sleep quality/efficiency in healthy adults using Rhodiola for over 2 weeks at low doses.

 

Rhodiola's Rosea roots/rhizomes' contain significant amounts of: GERANIOL dry.gifwink.gif in addition to Rosavin, Rosin, Rosarin, Salidrosides, beta-sitosterol, and over 100 other compounds.

 

My best results have come from using supplements of over 500mg/tablet/capsule of Rhodiola rosea extracts - that are standardized to 0.8% rosavins and .8% salidrosides, along with the entire root extract also (in order to get the benefits of the many compounds that are not fully understood yet). This usually costs around ~$15.00 for about 90-100 caps/tablets.

 

For an acute stimulant effect, I use up to 2grams/day for up to ~3-4 days. However, after 3-5 weeks of daily use (even 200mg/day or less) - the effects seem to stop/dissipate greatly, and I become very tired if I continue to use this supplement. Many herbal specialists recommend taking 1-2 weeks off after every 5-6 weeks of using Rhodiola extracts daily - in order to reap the best benefits overall.

im not using them concurrently (on the same days) but i've found the key for me to get any benefit from Rhodiola is dose it > 1 gram and take it on empty stomach.

 

i had an incredibly stressfull day last week, 15 hours of work combined with numerous personal issues. i dosed around 1500mg on an empty stomach and within an hour felt completely calm and level-headed. when i finally fell asleep it was deep and restful. the next morning there were no lingering/impending feelings of anxiety - i love this supp.

I want to start taking rhodiola but I think half my supps say "not to be taken with MAOI inhibiters on" - isn't one of rhodiolas suspected routes of action MAOI inhibition?

 

Maybe somebody could clarify for me, current supps taken:

I doubt there's need for excessive caution regarding rhodiola rosea interactions. Naturally, introducing any new supplement into an existing regimen or stack is best done slowly, tapering up over time to your desired dose, rather than right away.
